Educational Partnership for Inclusive Communities, Inc. (EPIC-IC) is a unique program that strives to provide meaningful, community-based programming to adults ages 21 and over with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). EPIC-IC provides comprehensive day habilitation services designed to promote skills necessary for adulthood with an emphasis on self-sufficiency, applied daily living skills, community integration, leisure, job training, and employment opportunities. Activities and environments are designed to foster the acquisition of skills, build positive social and interpersonal competencies, and promote greater independence and personal choice. As a qualified provider through the Division of Developmental Disabilities, EPIC-IC’s instructional model is based on providing small groups and one-to-one instruction, as well as ongoing, practical instruction and support throughout adulthood.
EPIC-IC Direct Support Professionals provide safe, secure, and dependable support and assistance in areas that are necessary for service recipients to achieve full social inclusion, independence, and personal and economic well-being as approved by the Individual Service Plan (ISP). The Direct Support professional focuses on improving the quality of life of service recipients.
Job Purpose: The EPIC-IC Direct Support Professional is responsible for the instruction support, and supervision of adults enrolled in EPIC-IC in the center and the community. The Direct Support Professional is expected to consistently collect accurate data across each day for assigned adults. Data are required to document each adult’s progress and enable the accurate billing of Medicaid for services provided.
Job Type: Full-time 8:00 – 4:00
Job Requirements & Skills:
· This position requires the ability to use Windows software and specialized data collection software such as the Autism Curriculum Encyclopedia (ACE). Training will be provided.
· Willing and able to learn all areas of program services and support.
· Must be able to successfully complete all required trainings and be able to follow directions and complete all assigned responsibilities.
· Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Basic computer and math skills required. Good oral and written communication skills.
· Must possess a Valid NJ Driver’s License and have a “clean” driving record.
· This is an active position requiring a minimum of 30% of time spent sitting, 40% walking/standing, 10% driving, and 20% lifting and or moving Items. The Direct Support Professional needs to be able to lift or transfer a minimum of 35 lbs. during routine tasks.
· Maintain confidentiality regarding enrolled adults.
· High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Job Responsibilities:
· Implement behavioral strategies necessary to assist the individual in progressing toward his/her personally defined outcomes as indicated in the ISP.
· Implement skill development programs, Behavior support plans, and other plans as developed as directed.
· After training in approved crisis intervention, have the ability to apply defined and trained Crisis Management Techniques when necessary consistent with the criteria provided.
· Record electronic data relative to individual goals, including ISP tracking, Daily Training Record (DTR), etc.
· Provide transportation to individuals during community-based instruction (CBI), leisure, educational activities, and, when necessary, to and from the day program.
· Operate all agency vehicles in accordance with all applicable state, local, and or federal legislation, as well as within agency guidelines.
· Inspect the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip. Verify that the assigned vehicle and equipment is in a manner that provides safety and comfort to all individuals served and staff members by checking vehicle safety such as tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.
· Provide timely, thorough, and effective communication regarding program individuals to all appropriate parties, including but not limited to program staff, supervisors, directors, and/or administration.
· Report accurately any unusual incidents, emergencies, and injuries as per the EPIC-IC policies and procedures manual.
· Actively participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings.
· Arrive on time, prepared to work.
· Any other duty as assigned by the Program Director or Executive Director.
Qualifications/Certificates:
· College degree preferred by High School Diploma/GED acceptable.
· 20 years of age or older.
· Current NJ Driver’s License, a minimum of 3 years of driving experience, and good driving record.
· Experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (preferred)
Clearances:
Compliance with Federal, State, and DDD requirements, including, but not limited to:
· US Citizen or holder of permanent resident status.
· Criminal background check and Central Registry check
· Motor vehicle review
· Drug testing for controlled, dangerous substances as a condition of employment as well as possible random testing while employed. The law requires that any adult program instructor who refuses a random test shall be terminated from employment.
