Job Description: Instructional Paraprofessional-Level I

An EPIC School Instructional Paraprofessional- Level I assists the Teacher in the implementation of instructional programs for children enrolled at the EPIC school. The Instructional Paraprofessional- Level I reports directly to the Teacher and/or Director regarding programming issues and to the Executive Director and/or Principal regarding administrative issues and performance evaluations

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the teacher with the implementation of instructional and treatment programs initiated by the direct supervision of the Teacher.
Collects records and summarizes data for assigned pupils.
Reviews data to identify patterns or problems and communicates this information to the Teacher on a timely basis.
Assists the teacher with the arrival and dismissal of assigned pupils.
Contributes to the development of instructional and treatment programs.
Attends staff meetings and training sessions.
Makes recommendations to the teacher regarding instructional materials, supplies and equipment.
Assists the teacher in caring for the physical needs of the pupils (e.g., eating, toileting, etc.).
Completes other tasks as assigned by the Teacher, Director, Principal or Executive Director.
Physical and Emotional Job Responsibilities

Working at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
Standing and circulating for extended periods of time.
Observing students, reviewing data, reading research literature, and other printed matter.
Lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
Ability to cope with moderate to high stress levels.
Daily contact with students, teachers, and school staff.
Regular contact with parents, community members and outside agency personnel.
Daily active instructional interaction with individuals displaying physically aggressive, self-injurious, or socially undesirable behavior.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Demonstrates skills and insights into behavioral instruction.
Demonstrates skills in problem solving of pupils’ skill acquisition and behavior reduction programs.
Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills.
Has excellent interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Readily accepts positive and corrective feedback on his/her performance, adjusting performance as needed.
Can perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Relates well to pupils and parents.
Understanding of use of internet for virtual teaching and virtual learning.
Ability to work remotely (computer, internet) if needed in an environment with limited distractions
INITIATIVE REQUIRED

The Instructional Paraprofessional- Level I works one-to-one with his/her assigned pupils and is expected to bring questions and concerns to the attention of the Teacher immediately. The Instructional Paraprofessional- Level I needs to be able to identify problems and present possible solutions to the Teacher on a timely basis.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required, preferably in Education or related disciplines.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

One to two years’ experience working with children with Autism/PDD is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMAND/WORKING CONDITIONS

The Instructional Paraprofessional- Level I is expected to perform all responsibilities consistently and effectively. Occasionally the, Instructional Paraprofessional- Level I will be expected to remain after hours for staff meetings and training.’
